Sailing Life

We Enjoy sharing the journey through my blogs.  We wonder what you really think about them, so don’t hold back and share your thoughts with us in the Comments!

  • It’s a go!

    It’s a go!

Pending weather, Sailing Vessel enjoy will depart Monday for Portsmouth Virginia and depart November 5th directly offshore to Green Turtle Cay in the Abacos with the ARC Bahamas! All systems checked out today when we test sailed with Ken and Lisa Karsten who will join us for the offshore leg.

Hauled out again? We’re not pay’in…

08:00:00 days left and we’re painting the props. Again… So, we had the lovely occasion to haul Enjoy out two weeks after our sail drives and props were painted (not on our dime…) And, to our shock and horror, the SeaHawk Smart Solution paint had failed. You could flake it off with a fingernail. So, Port Annapolis and Seahawk negotiated a solution during the US SailBoat Show, and today we are proud owners of newly pained sail drives. We have 2 layers of Seahawk’s S-76 Tack Coat, 2 coats of Seahawk Tuff Stuff, and 2 coats of Interlux Trilux 33…

  • Started provisioning food today

    Started provisioning food today

19:00:00 days left; yesterday we did our first Costco run. Where will it all go? That’s the challenge of boat living! I found a Southwestern recipe to marinate the skirt steak and a lime cilantro marinade for the chicken. Only ran out a bit on the lime…shhh lemon was substituted!  Don verified the Foodsaver we’ve kept since 2002 was still working and then proceeded to vacuum pack the meats, while I labeled cans and broke down boxes. It was so sad to say goodbye to our dear friends Dawn and David Landsman as well as the best boat guests ever, Gail…

  • Bye Bye Beemer

    Bye Bye Beemer

24:00:00 days left.  Beemer the boat dog is now Beemer the farm dog.  Thanks to my poker buddies, Beemer gets to hang with other dogs so he’ll be less bored.  Beemer humored us on Enjoy for the past two years but we knew he’d be happier on land long term.  Beemer never got used to walking across the passerelle, he’d bottom out halfway through and need to be carried.  He never swam, but seemed to enjoy the dingy rides a tad.  We certainly never needed to worry about him jumping off the boat on his own.  Thanks Janelle, we couldn’t…

  • We just installed our own solar

We just installed our own solar

25:00:00 days left and now with a magic solar carpet on the clam shell! So Don and I sat down when we first moved onto Enjoy and estimated our power consumption. We did the typical …research all sailing blogs and create our Google worksheet based on our equipment. How about those bilge pumps keeping water from getting where it shouldn’t…there are four plus their alarms that take power too. Then there are lights and personal electronics–not bad. But refrigerators and freezer have to be fed and then there’s that microwave I got used to–maybe we’ll use that a bit less…

  • What I learned from 150 mariners sharing experiences

What I learned from 150 mariners sharing experiences

30:00:00 days left.  What have I learned after decompressing from a terrific September weekend of Seven Seas Cruising Association Gathering of Mariners (Gam)? Among the many things I learned: I can sail into my late 90s, and that by selecting a catamaran, I wouldn’t have to change boat types when I lose some of my balance.  You see, 60-70 is young-old, 70-80 is middle-old, and 80-100 is old old! When you fully dedicate yourself as a volunteer, you make friends for life! What Don and I wish to do is the new normal, and we’re actually conservative in our approach. There’s…
